Juneaudave, With the experience you gained building boats and the beautiful trailer, you should post. You have experience in areas that most of us only dream of. Please, for the sake of lesser experienced builders, post and share your knowledge. We'd all appreciate the chance to learn from seasoned ...

Glen,

You did fine. We all have our off days. I'm happy to know you liked the kayak. It just goes to show you what can be done when friends work together, your design and my build. It is my favorite also.

We didn't put up with you. We hosted you. It was great.

Nope, no need. You could always look down the side of the forms and sight the sheer lines. Any deviation will show up. With the third leg, I would seriously doubt sag will occur. Another thing to consider is to mark the leg position on the floor. This will give you a reference point to look at perio...

This has been a topic of discussion many times in the past. It's one that has as many opinions as we have members. One thing I think most will agree with is that the 5/16" bead & cove bits work best for 1/4" strips. Another is that the 1/2" shank is stronger and less likely to ben...

Currently, I don't have a strongback. I thought I was done building and so I made firewood out of it. I did however save the legs. I'm getting ready to reconstruct it for another boat and it will again have three legs. I've seen every imaginable strongback design known to man on the internet. Two le...

The thickness of the forms should never make a difference since it is the edge of the form that is used in measuring for setup. I suppose the thicker the better so long as you take into consideration the width of the stems and also subtract for the thickness of the forms when attaching other forms t...

Why is it that you get to have all the fun? You're always in Ted's class. When do I get to take a turn?

I've always used particle board, 1/2' thick. To combat humidity, I always apply a coat of varnish. Two coats on the edges and the glue push out won't stick the boat to the forms. Works for me.
