Re: Repair
Jim: I will scrape the spot and recoat with resin, correct? Should I scrape until I get to the cloth? Since this mark is from an impact, is there a chance the cloth is pulled from the hull? If so, will scraping to the cloth allow resin to seep under it to reattach? I used West System epoxy, 205/207....

Re: Repair
Jim: The damage mark is not a scuff mark. It's under the surface. Yes, I sanded it and recoated. Can I heat the area to soften the epoxy in the hope that it will resaturate the cloth? Or, do I need to sand down to the cloth and recoat? The stress marks you mentioned are pretty much everywhere. I not...

Repair
I think this damage was caused by moving the hull around on its cradle. I think its from impact on the end of one of the wooden cradle supports. It is under the surface. The surface is smooth. It simply looks like visible fiberglass cloth within the resin. This definitely occurred after the outside ...

Thwart Pattern
I would like to carve my thwart to the design that is used for portaging- with a round area for you neck and shoulder pad extensions. Does anyone have a pattern they could share of this design?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Clarification on gunwales
Randy: Thanks for taking the time to explain the details of your picture. It's perfectly clear. I made a mistake in my email when I labeled the thickness of the hull strips as 1/8 in. They are 1/4 in. which makes my question about inwale thickness moot. A perfect example of the effect of advanced ag...

Re: Clarification on gunwales
Randy: Upon a closer look at your picture, the small triangular piece on the right in the front of the boat is between the 2 outwales. You added this piece, correct, to finish off the front? If so, I assume it is only as thick (in the horizontal dimension) as the outwales. If I'm installing a stem b...

Re: Clarification on gunwales
Randy: Thanks for your confirmation. Yes, I was addressing beveling. Currently, I don't plan to bevel the inwale. My local hardwood shop did not have any hardwood boards long enough for one piece gunwales. I do plan to taper them both as well as provide scuppers on the inwale. My outwales will be wa...

Re: Clarification on gunwales
Jim: I am also scarf joining my gunwales off the boat. When I install them, I interpret CC to mean the long part of the joint is installed next to the boat and on the outside, correct?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Clarification on gunwales
I have completed sheathing the inside of the hull and am pleased as to how it turned out thanks to Jim, Randy, Brian, and all the other forum members who have answered my questions. Thanks again to all. I am now working on my gunwales and will assemble them using scarf joints. CC states "By att...

Re: Transferring lines between station molds?
I also followed the CC instructions with no problems. I did use a CAD program to plot my points and then using 3 points at a time the computer found a best fit curve, but I did not use that curve. I only used if for reference. I used a batten and the points in the lofting tables for my final curve. ...

Clarification: Sheathing the Inside of the Hull
I'm ready to sheathe the inside of the hull and have a question on the process. Canoecraft states that the same procedure for the outside sheathing should be followed, except I will be applying 2 coats of resin, not 3. On the outside, I applied each succeeding coat after the first within 3-4 hours s...
