Dave, Steve Frederick is the only one that has used true bead and cove strips over a subwall and he just sealed the finished unit... Bud, It depends.. If I leave the sub wall alone on the exterior, I'll probably go with tight bond three to be safe, or I might just go with good 'ol yellow glue. (I'll...

Something different with bead and cove...
Besides the Redbird, I've also got another bead and cove project going on...A wood strip teardrop trailer. I know the teardrop isn't a boat, but I think my concerns will be better understood here. My sidewall composition will consist of the normal 1/4" x 3/4" b&c strips glued to an out...

Bryan, You might want to take a look on John Michne's site also... http://www.michneboat.com Go to Builder's Corner, Then go to Making Accent Stripes... It's not inlay... It's solid wood the whole way though. I used his technique to do this Indian basket weave design using two strips. http://www.nor...

I'm tring to envision what you've described in your words... It sounds like the tips of your diamonds don't fall at the edges of your strips. It sounds like the tips die right smack dab in the heart of a strip, right? If that's the case, I would make those cuts on the bench and glue the strips toget...

Joble, I did something a bit different. I plumbed two posts about 30' appart and clamp my string line to that. I positioned my strongback with it, then moved the string line up in elevation and set all my forms. Now that the stripping is underway, I've got the stringline set just above staion zero (...

I did exactly what Doug did as the strips came off of the saw blade, except I flipped every other two strips over so that I would get groups of at least four, six, eight, ten, twelve or fourteen bookmatched strips to mirror one another on each side of the canoe. The way things worked out... all the ...

I built my stems three times and all three sets were acceptable. I did change my mind after the first set and switched from basswood inners to ash inners. I only let mine dry on the form for one day, but then tied them in position with a rope and snugged them a bit tighter than the bend on the form ...
