Number of strips required?
Would anyone who has built an Endeavour Kayak be so kind as to let me know how many 3/4" strips they roughly used. I have a source for rough cut 2" cedar and knowing the number of strips required will assist me in figuring out how much lumber I need to purchase. I have manufactured my own ...

type of glue
If you are using white cedar I would suggest use yellow carpenters glue. I used the brown lee valley glue on one kayak and the glue lines showed up very noticably. The brown glue might be fine with red cedar.

stems
Are you using one piece stems or laminating your stems using quarter inch material? If laminating I would suggest they be steamed and bent first, allowed to dry then glued up.

brass screws
I usually use a steel screw first in the pilot hole then use the brass screw. I lube both with parrafin. When buying brass screws i also look for a steel screw that matches and buy a couple to put in the box of brass screws

spray skirt
I paddled with some guys many years ago who had a spray cover for their canoe. They had a drawstring and reenforced it with split plastic pipe which fit over the gunnels. . I think the pipe was cut in three inch lenghts.

moose hunting
On a twisty little river I would suggest a canoe with enough rocker to make it manouverable.(spell check where are youuuu) The prospector is an excellant choice. and handles well with a load as stated by other respondants.

for tom in MN
Tom I would be interested an any pointers you might wish to share in using basswood to construct a Endeavour Kayak. I have built two boats out of white cedar but would like to build a third possibly using basswood because of price. I can likely find rough stock at one of the smaller mills north of m...

rudder or not???
In case anyone is building a venture I would suggest it reqiures either a skeg of sorts or a rudder. I built one for my wife and it suits her fine but misbehaves in any sort of a side wind. It wants to turn into the wind which can be very frustrating. I built it anticipating the need to add a rudder...

staple holes
Depends how anal you are I guess. Staple holes are no big deal. I would not fill them in however unless you are sure the colour will match the hull colour as the boat ages.

which Kayak
I have built the Resolute for myself and the Venture for my wife . Venture is a short boat and tends to turn into the wind. Needs a skeg or rudder. Resolute is intended for bigger paddlers like me :D 260 lbs and the Venture is a nice boat for smaller paddlers ( I won't even mention weights here LOL)...

moving strongback
I built two kayaks in my woodshed and was able to move them outside on the strongback for sanding etc after the hulls were completed in the shed. I built the strong back as per Kayakcraft instructions and had no problems with twisting or warping. My wife and i simply carried it out and in as require...
