gunnels are oiled, starting varnish of hull... clean up?

Post by Erik »

I oiled with tung oil my gunnels and decks on sat. 24 hour full cure on the oil, so i can go ahead and varnish the hull now. My question is this: although i masked very carfully all around the gunnels, it was basically pointless becasue there are lots of drips here and there, and places my rag would fall against the hull well below my masking.

So i was planning on using some dish detergent and the garden hose to clean up the spots.

The varnish i am using has tung oil in it, is it possible that these spots wouldnt both the varnish? i was thinking they would likely not allow the varnish to cure or adhere to the hull properly.
