Restauration tips welcome !

Post by Erik, Belgium »

I ‘ve been asked to give tips in this restauration/ project. Due to the fact that I ‘ve only built woodstrip canoes/kayaks so far, I don’t really have a clue how to tackle this restauration. Erik.

Here is the translated request:

I have a K2-kayak, made by De Meeuw Kortrijk, Belgium, about 60 years ago. Dimensions are: 5m50 long and max 75 cm wide. As a child, I have paddled this kayak on the Leie river in Kortrijk, Belgium. The kayak has had new veneer partially, although this was a poor job and I want to have it replaced as well. As far as I know, the following remains to be done.

· Rebuild deck (front)
· Replace the poorly done new veneer
· New veneer on the hull
· Renovate the frame
· Sanding
· Epoxy layer in and out
· varnish in and out
· New canvas on front and aft decks

I’m looking for someone to explain HOW I should tackle this restauration, and who can hopefully give answers to upcoming questions. Maybe someone who can help me or do the work for me ?
