I purchased my white cedar from our local Conservation Authority. They own a historic saw mill that they use for demonstrative purposes here. I paid less than $2.00 B.F. and the money was basically "a donation" to the Authority. I understand that they have many beneficial programs related to recreational areas / hunting / fishing / conservation / education, etc. It just made sense to me to "purchase" from them.
They let me pick through whatever I wanted..of course I took the longest and the best that they had. (air dried)
You may find a similar opportunity near you...just a thought.
