UV protection for graphite bottom

Post by jimmar57 »

I have an epoxy/graphite/silica powder bottom on the canoe I just finished. All I did to it was sand it to a satin appearance, it was not varnished. I've read that UV can damage epoxy, that is primarily what the varnish is for. Should I apply some sort of protection to the graphite bottom? :thinking

No, do not varnish the graphite bottom. The graphite provides U.V. protection. Varnish would grab on rocks whereas the bare graphite surface slides over most rocks and other obstacles.
