Very low budget kayak

Post by jimmar »

I’ve started building a very low budget kayak. I’ve got about $240 invested so far which includes enough glass and epoxy and all the wood. I expect to spend a bit more for seat and bulkhead material and misc. hardware. Most of the wood for the hull came from 130 year old heart pine planks that I salvaged from the ceiling or my front porch when I repaired it. Some ends were rotted so I had to scarf most strips. I bought some clear 8 ft cedar planks from home depot for the deck. The outer stems are cut from old rough sawn fence boards. I plan to put a coating of graphite/epoxy on the bottom, I’m wondering if I should follow the water line or the strips. I’m wishing now that I did not put in the bottom white accent strip.
