1961 26ft Voyager Cedar Canvas

Resently have been working with a referbished ??? 1961 26ft Voyager cedar canvas canoe built by the Chestnut Canoe Company . It has just been recanvased . After two weeks of use the seat support bar has started to separate from the hull . It seems that the screws have been pulling out . So my question is what would be the best way to reconnect it without removing the canvas if possible .Any input would be appreciated .
