Adding a keel on a Nomad

Post by unix_r_us »

I launched my Nomad last week (pics coming soon) and am now thinking of adding a keel. I did not get a chance to paddle it fully loaded, but even half loaded it has a strong tendency to swing in the wind.

Have any Nomad builders added a keel? I know Ron of Canadian Canoes did, curious what other Nomad builders have done, and how the Nomad's have behaved in wind with and without a keel.

thanks

Are you sure that your are situated properly in the canoe and that it is trimmed correctly? Make sure it is sitting as level as possible in the water and that you are as close to the center of the canoe as possible. I believe that this will do much more than a keel.
