Bow eye placement

Post by barrm »

I am wondering about installation of a bow eye on the Gadabout I am restoring. It did not have one so I am unsure how they used the winch on the trailer to pull it on. I am only guessing I should install one unless there is another alternative that you can share.
If I do need one, here are some questions:

A. Do I use a "u-bolt" style bow eye (2 holes to drill) or single threaded one (1 hole to drill)?
B. There was an aluminum strip over the very front stem.....if I were to re-use this, do I drill through the aluminum strip for the bow eye?
C. Location to mount?.....so the winch pulls it slightly upwards?

Any info. you may have on this matter is appreciated. I'll send a pic. of the boat.
