Thanks Grumble !

Boat in the foreground is my first. It originated from Popular Mechanics, I believe it was from the May issue, 1991.
Left to right. The Pomeroy Special (shortened version of Bruce Kunz's 38 Special.
Next is Pearl, it is a Bob Brown Pirate, that I added tumblehome to. One of my favorites.
Third boat standing is also a solo I designed, similar to the 38 Special, except I spaced the forms to make it Asymmetrical. The widest station is 6" aft of center.
The Fourth is a symmetrical solo I designed. I named it Nokomis.
The Fifth is similar to one of Gene Jenson's designs.
Six is a MCA Osprey, stretched to 18.5'.
Seven is the 38Special as designed by Bruce Kunz.

Once upon a time, the 38 Special was on my short-list for a solo canoe. But it seems the plans are no longer offered for sale. Did you get yours from Northwest?

According to this post at MyCCR http://www.myccr.com/phpBB3_PROD/viewto ... 48&p=50039 the Merlin used to be a smaller canoe, and the 38 Special was a 16 foot version of it. I believe that Northwest's current Merlin at 16 feet is either identical, or very similar, to the 38 Special.

To be sure, I'd ask Dennis Davidson of Northwest.
And Yes the 38Spl. is a computer enlarged Merlin as designed by Bruce Kunz.

Another way to obtain a canoe designed by Bruce that is very similar to the Merlin, except the stem forms, is the Minnesota Canoe Asc. Kootenay. I have it somewhere.

I'll check and get back to you.
