Trimming Glass at stems?

Post by JesseP »

Hey all, Just finished glassing the hull of my canoe!! Looks pretty good I think. I am just wondering when it comes to trimming the glass at the stems, the book says to trim flush and then sand with 220. I'm just wondering if I am suppose to lay a strip of glass vertically along the stem?? as it sits now if I trim flush the stem will be bare wood on the leading edge... Thanks again for all the help thus far. Pictures to follow..

In the book it assumes you are using a stem band. If you are not, a strip of bias cut fibreglass should be used on the stems. I used two layers of fibreglass on mine.

Hope this helps.
