WRC sources, Indianapolis area?

Post by Morecowbell »

The closest board source I've found is L.L. Johnson in South Bend, IN. 6 hour round trip so before heading out wanted to know if there's anything closer that I'm missing?

Many thanks

Just curious ! Do you have a Menards close by ?

I've built most of my canoes from Menard's. I realize, they only go up to 16'

I do - checked them once last year, didn't see much that I liked but good thought - will check the local boxes and lumber yards but would like to get some 18' boards if I can.

Check Carter-Lee lumber on the west side of Indy - 1717 West Washington St. I found a good selection of beautiful clear western red cedar there. That was a few years ago, and I don't think it was 18', but they were really helpful so worth a try.

I got my boards in Columbus at Brands lumber. Large selection but this time of year they usually don't sell much so they don't get new shipments. Wherever you look try deck boards instead of 1 x's, less knots.
