I'm making that glorious transition from building a jig upon which to build a boat to actually building a boat... an Endeavor 17.
The inner stems are bent, laminated, and attached to the jig. Shear clamps are trimmed to size and sanded. I'm ready to start fixing the shear clamps to the stations and trim the ends so they play nice with the inner stems. I'm stuck. Pretty sure it's a simple matter of over thinking it.
Haven't had much success finding suitable pics on the interweb to see what others have done here.
Would love to see pictures or hear how other folks have dealt with this intersection.
Thanks,
Smitty

Shear Clamp vs Inner Stem
Re: Shear Clamp vs Inner Stem
First ..welcome to the forums, there are quite few really knowledgeable folks here.
I am not too clear on what you are asking ... is it how to attach the strips to the inner stem, or how to clamp them to the inner stems?
Brian

Perhaps I'm not using the right terminology.
I'll take a picture this evening.
Thanks for the reply, Brian.

Hi Smitty
I found this after some searching online. I think it's what you're after. http://media.photobucket.com/user/glenk ... 1.jpg.html
There's also this, but it was the first thing google found so you've probably already seen it. I'm not sure if the bevel of the sheer clamp matches the stem very well. http://www.instructables.com/id/Buildin ... eer-clamp/
Both seem to have a long notch cut in the stem mold to allow the sheer clamps to butt up to the back of the stem.
I haven't seen Ted's Kayakcraft book so I'm not sure if he describes this construction detail.

I'll also point you at Dawne Olsen's excellent photo album of a Bear Mountain kayak, although it doesn't have a close-up photo of what you're after. https://get.google.com/albumarchive/117 ... jDxWfbeIAR
