Advice needed re second coat of epoxy

Post by Morecowbell »

I just made it past the first coat of epoxy!! But by the time I finished the bow the stern was basically dry (pretty hot, low 90's)- and frankly I'm about done emotionally so fine with waiting for second and third coats. :laughing

So my question is how to rough up the first coat for the mechanical bond without cutting into the glass? Am guessing block sanding would be bad. Hand sanding? What grit? Or would a Scotchbrite pad be good since I've got nooks and crannies?

Many thanks!!

Yes.
I wouldn't have waited that long to apply fill coats.
Now that you have, a Scotch Brite pad might be your best choice.
After you have sanded with the pad, use compressed air to clean.
Apply a fill coat, and wait about an hour, and apply the next fill coat. Depending on your resin, keep applying fill coats until you can no longer see the weave pattern in the resin.
Let us know if you are happy with the results !
Throw up some pics if you can !
