Where would I find the best instruction on caning seats? I don't mind buying another book.

I can also recommend Gil Gilpatrick's book. The chapter on seat caning (written with a Maine sense of humour) is the best in the book, and has very clear step by step instructions. You really can't go wrong following his directions. The book also has an interesting chapter on paddle making.

Susan Van Leuven's book also has an equally excellent chapter on seat caning. It is a hardcover and a bit expensive, but definitely a worthwhile title to add to your library. It would definitely qualify as a coffee table book - beautiful color photos and very well written. The only book I have seen that comes close to "Canoecraft".
