38 special sliding seat or double paddle sit on bottom

Post by dmeenkster »

I recently acquired an unfinished 38 special and am seeking opinions on using a double paddle versus a sliding seat. I am considering a double paddle so the 38 special with my wife aboard may be better able to keep up with me if I build a kayak in the future. I am looking on using the 38 special as a multi purpose boat, first as a solo or second canoe, and secondly as a second or beginners kayak. :thinking

With the seat built in, you can use both a double kayak paddle and the canoe paddle. The 38 was designed for canoeing with a single blade, so I'd want to keep that option open.
