Winter in Baie-St-Paul

Post by Glen Smith »

For those who have never experienced a real Canadian Winter, this is what it looks like. As a matter of fact, it looks worse than this now that the municipal snow removal team have added a few more feet of snow to my front yard. This stuff will probably be around till the end of May! Paddling season? What's that?

Glen, Isn't that "white water"?

You see snow, I see a paddling opportunity. Get up on that Roof!

Glen - I'm so jealous. We had snow like that last year, but this year, we've been stuck at a foot. And now it has turned to a foot deep chunk of ice.

Glen,

With that much snow- do you use a snowblower? I am thinking of getting one for next winter- any cedarstrip/epoxy plans for snowblowers you can tell me about?! :laughing

Yes, I use a snowblower but it is not a cedar-stripper. I need one like this:

That looks like a lot of fun! The hard part is paddling back up the hill. :shocked

Behind our house there is a really nice slope to try this on but there is a ravine at the bottom of the hill. :frightened

I wonder if they would allow me on the local ski slopes. :thinking

Glen,

I'll bet you can rest easier now that your hired help removed the four feet of snow you had on your roof. :applause

Being a person that enjoys boats so much, I would have thought you would have waved good-bye to the snow once and for all and headed to a warmer climate so you can enjoy them all year long.

If I moved to a warmer climate and paddled year round when would I build boats? That's what Winter is for, building boats. :big grin

If you moved to a warmer climate you could still spend the winter building boats. Building just wouldn't have to take a backseat to snow removal.

But if there is no snow, how would I know that it is Winter? :rolling eyes

That's the easy part. When you see the Canadian geese heading south you know winter is near. When you see them heading north you know it's over. They're the smart ones, they spend the summer up north and the winter down south.

If your building boats in the winter, maybe you should use some of your spare time in the summer to build toboggans?

Yeah right, canoes and kayaks in the Winter then toboggans and snowshoes in the Summer. :rolling eyes

My display canoe is coming along quite well, just missing varnish.

Great looking family Glen. You may need a bigger boat. :laughing
