Machining your own planks

Post by Richard »

I am on my second build and would like to machine my own planks. Can anyone advise me on the minimum equipment I would have to buy to produce some good bead and cove strips.

All you really need to make tour own planks are three things. Table saw(mine is as cheap as they come), router, and router bits. I made my own router table with plywood. There is a big savings in money if you make your own strips. You don't need to have the best tools to produce good strips . A good thin kirf blade on the table saw is also nice to have.

Hi Willo,
Sorry for the late reply, I have had computer problems. I took your advice and bought a router and mounted it in my saw table, which is cast aluminium and has cut outs for mounting extra machines. After practicing and making guides for right, left and above I have managed to produce some accurate strips. This was very satisfying and it will save me loads of money. I also bought an expensive thin Swedish saw blade (about $180) but it leaves a superb finish.

Thanks for the advice.
