Identification of Indian Chief
Yes the Spainish had brought the horse to the West Coast. The English brought them to the East coast . Maybe there priincipal use early on was as draft animals. Later they were used on roads as they developed until we finally had the traffic jam. Perhaps thiose Indians had a kind of preminition (grin)

I know that Michener might not be the best source, but I've been reading his Alaska and was surprised at his notion that the horse and camel actually originated in the Americas and migrated over the "land bridge" to Asia where they flourished, but disappeared from the Americas until reintroduced by the Europeans. ????
