Addin the stems

Post by FWms »

Here is the method I use to glue the outer stems.

Start by applying glue following the instruction outlined in Canoecraft. Place the stem in position and clamp the outer stem to the inter stem (see C clamp at bottom of picture). Wrap a tube strip around stem and strongback/station mold until the stem is held in place. Now view your work and adjust the stem as required. The beauty of this method is: 1 - there are no screw holes to plug, fill or hide. 2 - If the stem moves it can be adjusted. 3 – The tube raps can be placed where they are needed to get the best holding pressure.

To make the tube strip, take an ordinary car inner tube and cut a continuous 2-inch strip around the perimeter until the tube is used up. To use, start with a single wrap around outer stem and a nearby station. By wrapping over itself on the first wrap the tube should hold itself, if not you can tie a knot behind the station. Continue stretching and wrapping until the stem is held in place. Tie off the end of the tube.

Hope this info is usefull
