Dust masks and fogged glasses

Post by SpiveyMtnMan »

I've tried many solutions to the problem of fogged glasses while wearing a dust mask. The best I could come up with was a traditional respirator with dust filters. But these clog pretty quickly and the mask is a little bulky. Then I found a mask designed to be worn under a welding helmet. It has a soft rubber mask that seals tight to eliminate the fogging, and a HUGE wrap-around filter that lasts forever. At around 12 bucks, it's hard to beat. I found them at both McMaster-Carr and Grainger Hardware. Replacement filters are available. Hope this helps.

On a side note, spray your plastic safety glasses with a mixture of fabric softener and water to eliminate static and help prevent dust accumulation. Cheap dollar store softener works fine. Also handy when working with plexi-glass.

I use duck tape on the upper half of my dust mask. I prefer low tech.
