Free hardwood supply

Post by BradRob »

Here is a note for those that dont mind short pieces of hardwood by doing a little hard work. I went to my cord wood pile last winter and split up some wood for the stove when i noticed some beautiful pieces of maple ,cherry and ash split up into 24 - 30 inch lengths. I decided to split the pieces into squares and rectangle and then planed 2 edges square on my jointer. Once the edges were squared off i ripped the blanks into strips and 2 inch boards and planed them down to 3/4 which i used for seats and paddle blades.Since then i have cut some wood a little longer (up to 38 inches and made up quite of bit of small stock that i will use for more blades, decks, seats and thwarts. As long as i have a wood pile i will have a never ending supply of free paddle blade stock.
