caning canoe seat

Post by all »

Looking for some tips for routing the groove for the cane's spline.
If I am using 1/4" x 1/4" spline is there any issue with using a 1/4" router bit given that the spline is somewhat tapered? Also, how best to route the curve? Other suggestions are greatly welcomed.

The spline suppliers usually specify the size of the groove to cut.

To cut the groove, I always create a template out of some thin material (e.g., 1/8" masonite). Once I'm happy with the shape of the template, I use my router to carefully cut the entire groove.

enjoy your build!
