Both of my boys are out of scouts 23 and 21 (both are Eagles), my oldest just went to work for US customs as a Customs officer. As far as continuing as scoutmaster I figured that I would stay with the troop for another few years. It is fun and fulfilling to see boys learn how to be leaders.
Back to the boat, I hope to have some pictures of the maiden voyage, which will happen this weekend.

We Launched on Saturday (8/25/07) . All I can say is, after 18 years of using an almuminum canoe I was shocked at the silence of this boat in the water. With aluminum you here every ripple of water that passes by or under the hull, the same with vegatation.
I am very pleased with the handling also, I am looking forward to many trips on the lakes here in the NW. :eyebrows
Here are three photos of the launch. There is a video to follow, but it still needs some editing.

Maiden Voyage Video
Here is a video of the maiden voyage of the canoe. I gave my wife Denise and her parents rides, and then took my daughter Heidi for a paddle uo Lacamas Creek for about a mile and a half.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.

Hold the chainsaw :frightened If the boat in your avatar is the one I think is, it looks Ok.mtpocket wrote:Great looking boat. I really like the arched decks. It is so much more attractive than the flat decks I used on my Redbird. I wonder if it's too late to change mine? I have a chainsaw.
The reason I went with the arched deck was because I didn't like the look of the cardboard pattern when I was fitting it. If I had made the deck short like the plans, flat would have been fine. I however wanted a dry storage area in the bow and stern so I built the decks 32" and put in a bulkhead. And a 32" flat deck looked blah, so I designed the arched ones.

Ranger build for Candian Canoe Museum sponsered by Rona
During the second week of January 2009 we set up a donated strongback and forms in the Peterborough Rona building store and are in the process of building a Ranger model canoe for the Canadian Canoe Museum for a raffle. The kit was purchased by Rona for us and we volunteers are building it over the next couple of months. I will post pictures of our progress once I remember to take my camera.
To date we have installed planking to the waterline including installing the turn ups (or i I first heard it pronounced "turnips" )
Will keep you posted

Nice build Tom !!!
How did your glue applicater extension work ?
Next time try Elmers new "GEL" glues ! They make them in interior, or exterior.
They work great, no runs, and good work time.
I've learned to be very minimal with my glue, as the epoxy will seep into small voids and make the bond !
Again Nice job !

Keep your paddle wet and your seat dry!
