Cypress strips

Post by IFM123 »

Has anyone used cypress to build a boat? I'm in KS and cedar has proven to be difficult to get. Oddly enough I can get cypress though and thought it would be a suitible wood to strip a guideboat out of.

I did a quick check on Google and found this

Based on wood densities you're going to be adding about 40% to the weight.

Use the "search" function here and you'll get a lot of information from other posts on the subject.

Thanks for the info. I had considered the density differences and thought I would mill the strips to 3/16 to save some weight. I'm still trying to find a local source of WRC and have had limited success. I figured the cypress is locally available and would make a decent looking boat

Also, i didn't realize there was a seach function. Thanks for pointing that out!
