Nomad launched

Post by unix_r_us »

I launched my Nomad after about 1.5 years of work on it. It weighs in at 59 pounds, and while it still needs a few finishing touches (more varnish, better yoke, etc) we launched it in Algonquin Park last week.

Special thanks goes out to Ron Frenette of Canadian Canoes (associated with Bear Mountain Boats) for all his advice, and especially the loaning of his strongback. Also thanks to everyone on this forum, most of the questions I had were already answered in one form or another. Without all the help and advice on this forum this would have been a much more difficult project.

Pictures are in two albums for your perusal:

Thanks all!

You did good, Mike. You are the straightest stapler that I have ever seen. The finished boat is a beauty. If your like me, you are already planning the next one. I just love the whole process. :applause

That's a beautiful canoe, Mike! I really like the ultra dark accent strips.
Nice keeping the family involved as well.

Happy paddling!

Mike,
Thanks for sharing your pictures. What a treasure for your children to remember dad building the canoe they took camping!

The craftsmanship looks extraordinarly fabulous.
