Getting strips

Post by Journeyman »

It's stupid question time again.

I am going to have trouble getting long strips of cedar here in France. Apart from the extra work involved in scarfing joints, is there any real detrimental effect on the structure of the hull if scarfed strips are used throughout, even on the shear plank?

I know I can get strips shipped, however the extra cost may just push my wife over the edge! :frightened

Thanks in advance

Shorter strips will be fine. You can scarf them or even butt joint them.

Hi Journeyman, I don't know where you are located in France but I have sent some builders to this place before: http://www.generale-des-bois.com/index.html

Don't worry, use shorter strips, I live in Europe also and it was hard to find long boards, and also the 4m just fit into the workshop with the door closed :laughing . I used scarf joints, and I have a hard time finding the places where the strips are glued together, so don't worry, and go ahead with shorter strips :tu
