Steam Bending using Poly Bag

Post by ckebsww »

I ran across this video last week and decided to try it out for bending my stems.

Worked like a charm! I was able to steam the stems inside the bag, then bend them around the forms while they continued steaming in the bag. No time limits. No pressure.

For my bag, I bought some 6mil Polyethelene sheeting from a big box store. Cut a piece wide enough then rolled an edge twice and stapled it about every 3 inches with a regular office stapler to form a long tube. Plenty tight enough to hold the steam. Here is my setup:

After I bent them, I let them cool off, then pulled off the bag and put them back on the form to finish drying out.
