Stem Caps

Post by JesseP »

Just wondering if anyone has ever made some sort of metal cap to go over the stem and gunwales. Ive been wanting to do it but struggle to come up with a plan/
I'm up to my torch.

My first reaction was ..."Metal is heavy" since I trip with my canoes that is a big concern, for me, if you don't, it may not be for you.

Second, if the caps are seated in epoxy to seal them, it eliminates the worry of water getting under the metal and sitting ... waiting for a chance to rot or rust something.

I can say the only metal I have seen used is the brass rail on the stems.
