Cedar Sourcing in Halifax area.

Post by rmoffat »

Just finishing up my True North 19'2 kayak and getting ready to start my Ranger 15'. For the kayak I had used 4x4 various lengths for my strips and was a lot of work. Hoping to source some full length 16' western red cedar boards for this build, but not able to get here in PEI. I'm heading to Halifax next week and have been to East Coast Specialty Hardwoods. They have lots of cedar, but want to shop around to make sure I'm getting the best pricing possible, as I'll have to have it shipped back to PEI.

16 foot is a standard length, even for building centres (think decking), so you shouldn't have much trouble finding lumber at that length.

Now if you want to go longer, that will be a world of hurt.
