Just want to confirm the order of things

Post by bobbaird »

Hi all,
I have both the hull and deck glassed and just want to confirm the order of the major steps from here to the end so I don't run into issues. I also have a couple of supplier questions.

1. Rudder Install Part 1 (cables)
2. Cut openings for hatch and combing
3. Install foot pedals (for rudder)
4. Put in foam separators/floatation (not sure what these are called)
5. Permanently attach deck to hull
6. Attach combing and hatch covers.
7. Rudder Install Part 2 (Pin, deck support, cables
8. Varnish all
9. Install Seats
10 Install bungee cords
Does this order make sense or is there a nuance or two you would change?

Also, what varnish do you recommend and what type of foam flotation should I get? I am in the states.

Thanks so much, hope to get it in the water by summer's end here in St. Louis, MO. Going on my third year :-) but had a year long interruption with a cross-country move.

Thanks so much,
Bob Baird

Hi Bob

Sounds Like a Kayak build and I have only done one as most of my builds have been open boats.
I think you have the order right apart from one thing. If you are going to varnish the inside of the hull I would do this before assembling the two halves.
Cheers

Alick
Thanks so much, and a good call. Yes, it is a tandem kayak.
