Bead and Cove router Bits

Post by pwstndrf »

I have been a member here for the last 10 + years and have built a Peterbourough Cedar Strip from Ted's First edition of CanoeCraft. Also a 16 FT. Drift Boat boat with cedar strip sides as opposed to conventionl marine plywood. This forum was a blessing for me as I was a rookie in the art of boat building. I recieved a lot of help in building the Canoe on this forum, which is still my pride and joy. Age and health issues has crept up on me as I am now in my eighth decade on this earth and don't see another canoe in my future.
I currently have a set of 1/4" shaft router bits I am willing to sell. They only were only used on the drift boat cedar strips. i am asking $30 for the pair plus a few bucks for shipping. If interested email me at pxwest@gmail.com and we can take care of business.

I presume you have sold the bits by now, but I wanted to know what bits are recommended?

Canoe bits are pretty easy to come by these days, they are a 1/8" radius for 1/4" strips. You buy a pair, one to cove and one to bead.

I put "canoe router bits" into Google and lots of suppliers came up Amazon : https://www.amazon.ca/HOEN-Router-Diame ... YS5SRE01B2

Lee Valley : https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/to ... -bead-bits

Busy Bee : https://www.busybeetools.com/products/r ... 1-2in.html

You get the idea and they aren't too expensive.

Crew ... a little trick I picked up on the Guillemot sire for aligning those bits. Take your test strip and use a marker to blacken the test edge. Now when you cut the cove or bead, the results are much easier to read, as they have a white/amber border.

I have found it really helps get the height/depth dialed in quickly.

Running your strips Between the router bit and your fence will uniform Strip width. No need to Plane your planks, before cutting strips !

It actually does two operations at one time.
