fortunately the festool sanders at the woodshop have excellent dust collection so I won't have to wear it or breathe it

Well, it is really the first of it's kind in the country... many different studios (welding, jewelry, fibers, wood, commercial kitchen, glass, etc) under one roof... and it's just a couple miles from our home.

I am trying to figure out how much glass to buy. How wide? I was thinking 60" wide but would 50" work for this fairly sleek boat? How long for one layer for a 19' 9" boat? I was thinking 7 yards.

What is the widest circumference of your hull? Measure that, and you'll have the width. With a beam of 33", I'd guess that 50" is wide enough for your hull but it's an easy measurement.
As for length, 7 yards is probably enough, unless you want to add any extra layers in the football (you can probably get enough for extra layers on the bow/stern out of 7 yards). But ignoring any extra layers, one more yard would be even safer.
edit: of course, the 7 yards is only enough for the outside. Inside + outside +1 = 15 yards as a comfortable length.

7 yards is cutting it pretty close, for one layer outside.
The old rule of thumb, was double the length, plus a yard.
I get by with 50" width cloth, on most of my solos. Measure as Patricks Dad suggests.
