CNC router drawings of Prospector ranger 15 Molds.

Post by Boessetoemreren »

Hi.
First time builder here.
I saw a "Diresta" video on youtube about him building this canoe.
He used his CNC router to cut out the molds for the strongback.
Does anybody know if these drawings a pulled from somewhere online or if he drew them himself into a cad program?
I tried commenting on the video but there are thousands of comments on his videos, so i guess he doesn't read them.

I have access to a CNC router and thought that would be way easier than cutting them by hand.

Best regards

Hi Morten

Welcome.

This is probably the video you meant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xc9S6ybstHw

Google found me this, which I assume are more detailed videos of the same project. It's for members only and I didn't feel like joining just to check. It may have the answers for you. https://www.themakersmob.com/courses/cedar-strip-canoe#

Bear Mountain sells CNC pre-cut station molds, but I think they would be VERY expensive to ship to Denmark. I couldn't find any reference to selling CNC plans on their website.

If you end up creating your own plans from the Canoecraft book, be aware that the Ranger is one of the canoes which has errors in the stem offsets, at least in the English version. (I have no idea about the German version of the book). Corrections are here: https://www.bearmountainboats.ca/pages/faq

Also be aware that the instructions in Canoecraft for actually turning the offsets into a set of plans are not very good. They assume you have knowledge of lofting a boat.

Good luck

I was further perusing the Bear Mountain site and I found this on the FAQ page
Are your plans available as a digital download?

For those wishing to use a CNC router, we can provide .dxf format digital plans. The charge is $210 for the files, plus an additional $40 royalty for each set cut after the after first. Please contact us at info@bearmountainboats.com for purchasing details.

Alright.
Thank you very much!
I bought the plans and also have the book. Probably gonna go with cutting the molds from the plan by hand then. Didn’t realize the cnc drawings would be that expensive!
