Re: 17' 0" Freedom
I wove the seats after 3 coats of Epifanes on the frames and then added 2 more coats across the whole thing (cord and all).

Re: 17' 0" Freedom
My 3rd Freedom 17 Carbon/Kevlar build is done. Final weight is about 39 pounds. Below is a table of my weight measures as I progressed through the build....
Component Weight Cumulative
Hull 17.4 17.4
Core 3.95 21.35
Inside layer 9.5 30.85
Gunwales 2.9 33.75
Seats 1.97 35.72
Yoke 1.63 37.35
Varnish 1.71 39.06
Other 0 39.06 (this includes sanding the hull before finish (-.7 lb), Skidplates (+.3 lb) and, Thwarts/hand grips (+.4 lb)
Total 39.06 (my scaled weighed it at 39.00 but I've seen it be off +/- 0.1 pounds
Here's a few pics...

Re: 17' 0" Freedom
Congratulations Randy !
That's as nicely done as I've seen, or done myself !
The light weigh is impressive also.
It will be awhile before you can enjoy it, unless you are tripping South !
I'm guessing it will see the BWCA next year !

Re: 17' 0" Freedom
It will definitely get up North this summer. Debating routes now. Thinking either a Quetico Ely to Atikoken and back trip (160 miles) or Ely to Grand Portage (120 miles) along the US/CA border (it's that 8 mile Grand Portage that drove me as I built this boat).
Today is opening day for BWCAW permits!

Hey Randy, most of the image links for your last build don't seem to be working, any chance you could take a peak?

Re: 17' 0" Freedom
All the pictures are still there but something changed on facebooks side I'd guess. Here's a link to the album showing all the steps in building the 3rd composite F17.

Hope this helps.
I built a 4th version between 3/1 and 4/1 that is just about a pound lighter but not particularly different than this one....

Re: 17' 0" Freedom
At some point I will be emailing you to get the details of the foam and tubular carbon fiber you used and the supplier ... I think that is one of the changes for the next boat I build.
Thanks
Brian
