When to cut the stems to length
When to cut the stems to length
I am building the 16' Prospector as my first canoe. Using numerous reference materials to guide me. I have bent and glued the stems on the mold while it is clamped to a work surface. What I am confused about is when to cut the stems to length. Seems the best way is when they are still clamped to the stem mold. Does this make sense? Dumb question but needed to ask!

Re: When to cut the stems to length
I assume you are talking about cutting the stems to length on the far end (not the end near the first station mold). I leave the stems extended until I have taken the hull off the mold and glassed the inside and just after I install gunwales. I use the final placement of the gunwales as a guide for where to cut the stems.
