Aluminum Tubing

Post by François »

I am looking for ultra light aluminum tubing to be used for thwarts and seat support in a C1 Marathon canoe. I would like to know where it is possible to buy that kind of product?

For those interested, after 270 hours into the project we are now at the stage of glassing the outside. We are a little behind in our schedule but this C1 design is vere challenging.

You could by it from Bell Canoe Works.

Aluminum tubing is also available from aviation supply houses like Aircraft Spruce. But it comes at a price. If you can't find a source, try your local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). Those guys are friendly and good at scrounging. Headquarters for EAA are in Oskosh, Wisconsin or www.eaa.org.

Marmon Keystone.

They are a huge wholesaler of all sorts of tubing and pipe and have anything you may need for the project. You may have to gin-up a business presence to make it go with them and they typically have a minimum purchase level of $100. They're national.

I get all the spars for my canoe sailing rigs from them and they usually have what I need in stock. You can order from dozens of different OD, ID and wall thicknesses dependig upon your application.

Thanks for all the information.
I contacted Wenonah racing division and they agreed to make a sliding seat assembly based on the specification I provided for the Bear Mountain C1 Marathon canoe.
