Should I double glass the stems

Post by Nachako »

If I do how wide a strip should I use ?
Should I do it before or after the main glassing is done?
Also bravo to this board. I have been watching it for several months. Went my boat was a dream and am sure glad it is back up. Away we go. Thanks Paul

Hi Paul,
I'm going to use brass on the ends of my stems, so I'll only be doing one application of glass.

glassing stems

Post by Glen Smith »

Hi Paul,

If you are going to glass the outer stems be sure to use bias-cut cloth or it won't wrap around the tight radius. I tried adding the stem glass before the hull glass but then you can't feather in the bump that is produced by the double glass thickness. I normally apply the bias-cut glass after glassing the hull and will continue to do so.
