I have had a difficult time fitting the last strip(s) and on the kayak I am building, I have several "last strips" due the stripping pattern I chose. As I was comtemplating how best to fit the strip, I stumbled on an easy method.
Place a wide piece of masking tape over the area to strip. Cut out the area, then carefully place the tape on the wood prepared for the area, and cut out the strip using the making tape as a pattern. I had to sand very little and got a nice fit. This might not work well with long pieces, but on this piece (about 24" long), it worked well.
