Nomad launch day!!
At long last and not a minute too soon. I finished hanging the seats at 4am this morning. This afternoon, we took a test run in a lake near the house, and tonight, we're off to the BWCA with our new 17' Nomad. Thank you all for the support. I had a wonderful time building, and this forum was instrumental in completing the project.

Thanks for all the comments. We had a wonderful time in the BWCA. I’m not an experienced paddler, but I thought the boat handled 2 large adults and a bunch of gear with no problems. Not only was the boat a great conversation starter crossing paths with other canoeists, but even with random strangers at gas stations en route.

Bryan,
We were in Snowbank, Disappointment, and Parent Lake. I grew up in Duluth, but never made it to the BWCA. We were always sailing on Lake Superior, for our summer trips, so this was all very new to me. I can't wait to go back.

Bryan,
ohhh the brule. I love the south shore area. I sailed out of Duluth, while I was growing up, but I've had my boat in Bayfield and more recently Cornucopia. Now, we're looking for smaller boat and smaller water adventures, for the next couple years. I'd love to find some spots that I can just take off and canoe/camp for a long weekend if the weather is nice. I love the BWCA, but it's a long haul from the cities, and it seems like you really need to plan ahead to get permits. I'm sure I'll have some preplanned trips upcoming, but do you have any suggestions for a quick getaway in the Duluthish area? How's camping on the brule handled. Isn't that a WI State Forest?
