Seat hanging height

Post by zpeteman »

I'm trying to hang the seats in my Hiawatha 15'. According to Canoecraft the average measurement for space under the seats should be 9 1/2' to 10 1/2'. However, if I use that figure and place my seats at 9 1/2' from the bottom, they end up only about 1/2 below the inwale. This seems way to high to me.

Am I reading something wrong or is it acceptable to go ahead and lower them a couple of inches?

Thanks for the help.

I didn't like the idea of having the seats up close to the gunwales on my Hiawatha especially due to the low initial stability of this design so I used spacers approximately 2" long. This leaves me with about 8.25" below the seats and I am comfortable with this.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to go that route as well.
