Water Fox progress

Post by Glen Smith »

I managed to add a few more strips today. As you can see, I am building without staples. Lots of masking tape, clamps and jigs though.

Clear packing tape makes a good clamp Glen

I agree, it does make a good clamp but I have a few problems with clear packaging tape. I have to use a knife to cut it rather than just tearing off a piece as with masking tape. I then have to search for the end of the roll if I didn't keep it under control while cutting off a piece, the end of masking tape is a cinch to find. When removing the clear tape, if it tears, I have a hard time seeing and removing the remnants, with masking tape any little bit shows up easily.

I think I'll stick with masking tape. :rolling eyes

This stuff works good and has a cutter dispenser.

But I like blue masking tape for strip clamp down.

Today I sanded the hull and wet the wood to raise the grain between sandpaper grits.

Very pretty, Glen. She looks fast even sitting on the forms. Bet she paddles great and turns a lot of heads.

I have finished making the coaming riser and sanded the deck. Tomorrow I will be glassing.

I also glued up a large strip panel which will be used to make the two bulkheads.

The outer deck has been glassed and the bulkhead panel is glassed on one side. I have steam bent some laminations to form the cockpit coaming lip. The lip will be composed of 4 sections. One fore, one aft and two sides. Then they will be mitered to fit together and glued to the riser. In this pic I have epoxied 3 pieces together but they are not glued to the riser yet.
