Okay, I finished it. Here are a bunch of pictures:
Here are shots of the tongue and U-joint for when it's used as a bike trailer:

Re: Cart
Thanks Chris. I just finished it so I have not taken it that far. The trailer will fit on my car's bike rack... the intention is to drive most of the way by car and then use it on the last mile to gain accessibility where parking is a problem (eg. near the Ferry, the Beach or down a footpath). I can't see taking it into traffic. Although, I want to use it in the San Juan Islands - where bicycles are abundant and parking at the beach is nearly impossible. I think I could take it over some pretty rough terrain. I have a cable lock to secure it to a tree or a fence 'cause it doesn't fit in the boat.Rubycanoe wrote:How far do you trailer it?

Re: questions
Thanks Hoz, that's unidirectional carbon fiber. I figured I needed as much hardness as I could get since I'm bolting metal there. I put almost 40oz (4 layers) on each side - alternating the weave 90 degrees each time.hoz as guest wrote:Great work Chip. What fabric is that on the ends? Carbon/kevlar?
Also, what sort of stain did you use on your kayak? Any problems with the epoxy? I have read some reports of delamination problems with stains.
That's an old kayak I built 6 or 7 years ago (you don't expect me to drag my nice one behind a bike do you :D ) As I recall, it is a water based gel stain; analine dyes work too. I haven't had a problem with it. Glen Smith pointed to an article on stains in Epoxyworks Magazine that's worth a read. See http://www.epoxyworks.com/21/index21.html
