While shaping and stripping the stems on my Freedom 17-9, I became frustrated working around the clamps holding the stems to the molds. I came up with this design that allows better access to the stem, and folds out of the way as the strips approach the clamps. Each clamp consists of:
2 - 1/4" x 7/8" x 4" hardwood pieces left over from the outside stems.
1 - 3/4" x 1 1/2" x stem width pine
4 - 3/4" drywall screws
1 - shim cut narrower than the stem
As the strips approach the clamps, the top block is removed and the "arms" fold down and out of the way. Not only does the clamp pull down on the stems, the arms hold the stem from side to side movement even when the softwood block is removed.
