How visuable are butt joints

Post by Cape Breton »

Hello

We will be purchasing our wood to rip, router and make into a Nomand over the winter/spring soon.
My question is - How visable would butt jointed strips be?

Anybody have pics of finished butt joints?

Looking forward to getting the saws out making some saw dust real soon. :twisted evil

Cheers

Scarf joints can be quite hard to see after the fact if the wood grain and coloration match very closely.

You can see a few sample photos here: http://woodcanoes.multiply.com/photos/album/7/Scarf_Jig

The glue you use can be a factor in how visible the joint is. As is how tight the fit, and how close the match. Try to avoid having a joint that light can shine through, when the sun hits it the joint will glow from the other side.
