i decided i should start prepping the outer stems so i could mark the mortice for fitting. both stems were cut with the ends 25mm shorter than the inner stems. in canoecraft it states "there will be a point at which the inside stem plus the plank ends is the same width as the outside stem <snip>. that is the spot where you begin to taper the end."
when i marked it out, the taper is about 20mm longer on one stem than the other. is this to be expected?
outer stem dilemma
Re: outer stem dilemma
Is your canoe design asymmetric? If it is, then there certainly could be a difference.
