I was afraid of that question, but here goes.
Left to right.
First canoe. The design started out as a solo designed by Bob Brown from Minnesota, named the Pirate. It had very little tumblehome, so I transposed tumblehome from another boat, the Merlin, designed by Bruce Kunz, also from Minnesota. I call it Pearl. This is a symmetrical hull.
I really love this hull, its easy to get up to speed, tracks great, and seems to glide a long time before slowing. My #20 is this same hull, only slightly enlarged, and built as a A-symmetrical hull.
Second canoe. The lines of this canoe came from a Jensen designed boat, to which I also added tumblehome. Nice hull.
Third canoe. Is a Minnesota Canoe Assc, Osprey, stretched to 18'6". I built this boat when my boys were old enough to both go to the BWCA. It has served us well ! It also won first place in the Minnesota Canoe Assc building contest in 2000.
Fourth canoe. Is the 38spl. designed by Bruce Kunz. Very near the top of my list ! A great tripping boat for the BWCA ! My youngest son would leave us in his wake, so I could scarcely get a picture of him in it ! Its 16'1".
Fifth canoe. Is also a 38spl. only built in 12" centers, which shortened it to about 15' 6". I named this the "Pomeroy Spl". as my good friend who was wanting to build a 38 Spl. miss spaced his forms and ended with this hull. I loved it so much, I built one for my self !
Sorry for making this post so long !

Nice recovery when a mistaken form placement makes you want to build one just for yourself.
Beautiful canoes. Thanks for sharing. Jim.

Re: Jims latest canoes
Thanks John and Jim !
This canoe building has been an obsession for me.
I've lost countless hours of sleep thinking about building canoes.
I've spent countless dollars on building them.
I've spent countless hours building canoes, and I've spent countless hours paddling them.
I guess it's good I can't count, or it would've taken all the fun out of it !
I've enjoyed every minute of this obsession !
Sharing the knowledge, has lead me to some great friends !
Humbly yours
Jim

Re: Jims latest canoes
I know this is my old thread, but I've done a lot of building since. All but one was built in the last few years.
I have three more under construction in the shop now. Two strippers and a carbon fiber.

Two more for the fleet.
That one is son Ben's Traveler.
And my Nokomis.
It's been a busy year, with one more in the shop to finish.

Re: Jims latest canoes
Great collection of boats Jim.
Are the carbon fibre ones difficult/expensive to make?
Cheers

Thanks Alick !
The carbon fiber canoes, aren't difficult, but they are costly!
More resin, and the extra layers of cloth, as well as higher cloth price, can brig material price for a solo canoe to well over a $1,000. I don't know what the exchange rate to pounds.
But light and something different to build.
